Food Waste and Its Environmental Impact: Our Shared Responsibility

As part of the “Food Waste and Its Environmental Impact” project, implemented by Larsa Organization and funded by World Learning and the Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), an awareness workshop was held under the title “Food Waste and Its Environmental Impact: Our Shared Responsibility.”

The session was presented by Dr. Sarah Salem, a lecturer at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Basra. The workshop aimed to raise public awareness about the environmental consequences of food waste and emphasize how small daily actions can make a meaningful difference in protecting the environment and promoting sustainability.

Key Recommendations:

  1. Strengthening the role of the Environmental Police in monitoring violations.
  2. Introducing environmental education into school curricula to enhance students’ awareness.
  3. Engaging media outlets to support awareness campaigns about food waste.
  4. Coordinating with restaurants and NGOs to redistribute surplus food instead of wasting it.

By working together to reduce food waste, we can take collective action toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.
