Larsa Presents Key Paper on Climate Change and Vulnerable Groups

As part of joint efforts to protect the environment and address the challenges of climate change, and under the patronage of the Prime Minister, Eng. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, the city of Basra witnessed the launch of the conference “The Role of Civil Society in the Integrated Process to Address the Impacts of Climate Change.”

The conference was implemented by Al-Najda Al-Shaabiya Organization PAO within the program Improving the State of Human Rights and Enhancing Democratic Participation, with support from the Norwegian People’s Aid (NPA).

Larsa Organization participated in the conference by presenting a specialized working paper on climate change and its impact on marginalized groups. The paper highlighted the role of civil society organizations working on the rights of vulnerable groups—such as children, the elderly, women, internally displaced persons, and persons with disabilities—and shed light on the growing environmental challenges and their humanitarian and social consequences. It also emphasized the importance of integrating a human rights perspective into climate policies and response mechanisms.

The conference served as a vital platform for dialogue and collaboration between civil society organizations and key stakeholders, aiming to establish effective responses to climate challenges and strengthen the role of civil society as a central partner in environmental protection and the development of sustainable policies.
